With simple ingredients and a creamy texture, it's a fantastic source of protein and a new favorite way to enjoy cottage cheese for a healthy breakfast or a snack!

Background on the Recipe

There’s a restaurant in my hometown of Santa Barbara, California called Zaytoon. It’s my favorite restaurant ever! It has a cute Mediterranean vibe with outdoor seating that makes you feel like you are living in a fairytale.

Last year, I went to the restaurant for my birthday and we ordered one of the appetizers called the yogurt dip.

It was the most delicious thing I've ever eaten. Creamy from the yogurt, crunchy with the pomegranate, with a slight salty note from the salt on top. I have been wanting to recreate it for months now.

Finally, I decided to put my own spin on it by making my high-protein version with one of my favorite ingredients: Cottage cheese!!

If you think you don’t like cottage cheese, you have to try whipping it!

When You Whip Cottage Cheese, You Get…

  • Creaminess! It creates a creamier & smoother texture, removing all of the chunky curds!

  • It’s great for spreading! It becomes easier to dip and spread on toast or crackers.

  • Perfect as a dip! This homemade whipped cottage cheese is indulgent, creamy, and super versatile to replace any sour cream, yogurt, or labneh.

  • Great for blending with other flavors: it has a texture and taste that is perfect for adding other flavors!

Which Cottage Cheese Do I Prefer?

Good culture cottage cheese! I love the classic 4% because it is made with nothing but milk, cream, sea salt & live/active cultures. All of their products are also USDA-certified organic with 14 grams of protein in 1 serving!

Ingredient Substitutions

  • Cottage cheese - If you're not a fan of cottage cheese, try swapping for a full-fat, thick, plain Greek yogurt.

  • Garlic powder - Use fresh cloves of garlic instead for a deeper garlic flavor!

  • Pomegranate seeds - Try dried cranberries and dried or fresh cherries.

  • Pistachios - Try sliced & toasted almonds or sunflower seeds if you are nut-free.

How to Make Creamy Whipped Cottage Cheese

Whip the cottage cheese and garlic in the bowl of a food processor for 2 minutes until smooth and creamy. Scrape down the sides if necessary. Taste & make any adjustments with seasonings!

Pour into a bowl and drizzle with olive oil, honey, and pomegranate seeds.

Serve with crackers for dipping!

How to Store Leftover Whipped Cottage Cheese

For best results, store any leftover whipped cottage cheese in an airtight container in the refrigerator. It will stay fresh for up to 3–4 days. Before serving, give it a quick stir to restore its creamy texture. If it thickens too much, you can mix in a small splash of olive oil or water to loosen it up.
